Vina Subbasin GSP Determination Letter

On July 27, 2023 the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) notified the Vina Subbasin Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP) Plan Manager that the GSP has been APPROVED.  As you will see in the Determination Letter, the approval has been based on recommendations documented in the DWR Staff Report that indicate that the GSP satisfies the objectives of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) and substantially complies with the GSP Regulations. In addition, the DWR Staff Report also proposes recommended corrective actions that will enhance the GSP; these actions will be considered as part of future GSP updates.

GSP Periodic Evaluation

Under the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA), Groundwater Sustainability Agencies must evaluate and report on their Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP) every five years. The Vina Subbasin’s first Periodic Evaluation is due to the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) in January 2027. This evaluation will review monitoring data, assess progress toward the basin’s sustainability goal, and identify any updates needed to improve the GSP and ensure long-term groundwater sustainability.

Download the Vina Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP). This is the adopted GSP that was submitted to the Department of Water Resources (DWR) for review.

The DWR evaluates GSPs to determine if they comply with SGMA, substantially comply with the GSP Regulations, and whether implementation of the GSP is likely to achieve the sustainability goal for the basin. DWR’s evaluation and assessment is based on criteria outlined in the GSP Regulations.

To explore different layers on the Vina & Wyandotte Creek Subbasins Public Web Map, you can toggle data layers on and off using the Layers panel on the left side of your screen, as pictured below. Each layer represents a specific dataset—such as monitoring wells or stream gages—and is accompanied by an eye icon. To show or hide a specific layer, click the eye icon next to its name; a slashed eye indicates the layer is hidden, while a clear eye means it is visible on the map. This feature allows you to customize your view and focus on the specific water resources and infrastructure data most relevant to you.
